Abstract
Purpose: The purpose of our study is to identify depressive symptoms factors among married women and analyze the effect of married men¡¯s housework on married women¡¯s depressive symptoms.

Methods: This study included 6,685 married women who participated in the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families 2020. A chi-squared test was used to assess baseline characteristics. Multiple logistic regression analysis was performed to identify the association between general characteristic and depressive symptoms. In subgroup analysis, multiple logistic regression analysis was used to find the association between married men¡¯s participation in housework and depressive symptoms by leisure time and time married men spent with family.

Results: Married women were depressed when married men did not participate in housework (OR=1.42, 95% CI=1.15-1.74). Among married women who spend more and less time in leisure time, married women¡¯s depressive symptoms were associated with married men who did not participate in housework (more leisure time: OR=1.46, 95% CI=1.09-1.95; less leisure time: OR=1.36, 95% CI=1.01-1.82). Also, married women were increased risk of depressive symptoms when married men did not participate in housework among married women with married men who were not spend time with family (OR=1.48, 95% CI=1.12-1.95).

Conclusion: This study confirmed that married men who did not participate in housework were risk factor related to married women¡¯s depressive symptom. The government need to consider married men¡¯s housework when they are preparing measures to improve married women¡¯s mental health. In future studies, it is necessary to analyze in consideration of a model including the quality of housework.
